On the first day--Saturday, Nov. 6th
arrived at 31 weeks Nov. 5th, 2010
weighing in at 3 pounds!
On the first day--Saturday, Nov. 6th
Three generations...
we will re-take this shot when mom and baby are feeling better!!
On the second day with Matea--Sunday, Nov. 7th we will re-take this shot when mom and baby are feeling better!!
Morgan up and around already--way to go!
Matea under the lights.......a mother's calming touch
on the Third day--Monday Nov. 8th
grandpa...oh, grandpa she's already captured your heart!
c-pap came off--she's breathing more on her own!
grandpa fixing her "tanning-mask"!
4th day--Tuesday Nov. 9th
Morgan is discharged as a "patient" but allowed
to room in as a guest.
we get a "quiet room" across from the NICU for the night.
Morgan gets to hold Matea for the first time...
magic--
checking the monitors...all is well...all is well
Fifth day with Matea--Wed. Nov. 10th
five glorious days.....
Welcome to the world baby girl
Her IV has been moved from her foot to her head--
standard procedure so that no site gets over-used...
" kangarooing" mom and daughter
this is the picture of "content"
later in day--no more lights for Matea....
YEAH,one more machine gone!
Eyeing the world around her...
I think this is the most beautiful photo in the world...
So hard to leave the hospital that afternoon--
took a taxi back to their apartment,
Jacob in New Mexico, interviewing for a residency...
Arriving at home, a tender moment of tears, but thankfulness too--
for Matea and for an amazing daughter and son-in-law!
On the 6th day--Thursday Nov. 11th
Back to hospital for 10 am feeding and holding!!
Morgan has been able to supply the NICU with
all the milk that Matea needs!!
Changing her diaper for the first of MANY times!!
and Matea slept through it all--good job, mom!
Then Morgan got to "transfer" Matea out of her islet,
and into her arms!!
Have to mention how amazing the nurses and doctors are in the NICU
they provide a name template for the parents and a binder for recording NICU milestones and preemie information. Such a great group of caring professionals!
Ok after that amazing morning at the hospital we had to go to the WIC office
to get a breast pump and other supplies...
I drove down Divisadero, through the Castro and Mission district and
we arrived at what I can only describe as a DMV for Women, Infant and Children...
it was so depressing.. .filling out forms that asked all the wrong questions...
Just imagine the DMV and fill it with new mothers of all ethnicities, babies and small children --watching social workers teaching how to hold, feed and care for these helpless babies..
we waited 1 hour until they even called Morgan back--
she was so amazing--got the machine and paperwork done--
what mothers do for their children...
I remember those days, while in school, standing in line for the free milk and cheese,
using the WIC coupons in the store and
hearing the insensitive comments of waiting customers.
ok, i digress, but lets here it for mothers (and fathers) who will do anything for their children!!
On the 7th day---Friday Nov. 12th --ONE WEEK OLD
Morgan learning about compressing to sooth....
and she looks like she's got the touch!!
What a beautiful mother and daughter!
looking into each others eyes...
On the 8th day Saturday Nov. 13th--Baby Shower day--
amazing friends, other dental wives and dental students...so kind!
Morgan and Jacob went into hospital after shower, but I stayed back--
only two are allowed in the NICU at a time--I wanted them to have
a family day together... I walked the amazing streets of San Francisco!
Nine days with Matea Sunday Nov. 14th
I went with them today--while Morgan pumped
I took photos of Jacob and his beautiful daughter
I then walked and gawked at the estates on Washington Street
I'll post those later!!
And made it home the same time they did!!
On the 10th day--Monday November 15th
Count them... 10 fingers, 10 toes!
Last night they took Matea's hand and footprints--
such tiny impressions!
Can't get enough of mother and daughter....
On the 11th day--Tuesday, Nov. 16th
Morgan had a fever and chills during the night--so we stayed home trying
to figure out why....
Jacob went to see Matea that night
and took a photo of her in her first "outfit"
such growth in just 11 days!!
Wed. Nov. 17th
On the 12th day of Matea, my darling daughter gave to me...
one more magical, moment with Matea...
We needed to figure out the bus schedule-- I leave today and Jacob is out of town doing a rotation--plus Morgan can't drive for a few more days...
she hates this photo, but she wouldn't "smile" and I told her that years from now she'll want to show her daughter that she rode the bus to visit her--so be nice!!
Matea looks so amazing...
the sun kept reflecting on her isolet, but that didn't stop me!
For my 12 days with Matea,
this was my room ...
and like the sign says.. it was filled with love--
Thank you Morgan and Jacob for letting me share
these first tender days with you and your daughter
You are amazing parents--
you have an incredible daughter--
these grand-girls in our family have brought such joy, love and tears into our lives!
we are so blessed---thankful for every moment--
